For the most relaxing Spring Break in Florida, it has to be Seaside, the beautiful jewel in the crown of Florida's most gorgeous coastline, the Emerald Coast.
While Florida during Spring Break may conjure up visions of the rowdy, Seaside is the pleasing retreat from all that. Seaside is a place to take a real break from the routine, to take time out from the world and actually relax, and enjoy what's going on.
And there's a lot going on in Seaside. For a small town that's immaculately designed for kids and families to walk around safely in, Seaside also offers all of the beach activity you could wish for, but without the crowds, on the largest private beach along Highway 30A, offering 3,000 feet of pure white sand along the sparkling teal-green waters of the Gulf.
Come to Seaside!
Everyone is welcome in Seaside, and the very best way to experience it is to book one of the pastel-painted vacation cottages and just live here like a local for a while. But also, Seaside welcomes the many day trippers from all along the coast who come in to shop and dine or enjoy one of the special events happening. Just dropping for the day fun too, just to be here in this walking town with its funky streets, and explore its secrets on foot or by bike. As a bonus, Seaside makes it easy to park outside of town and come into "Seaside Proper" in one of the free shuttles that run from early until late - the limited paid parking available in town helps to pay for the cost, as a win-win arrangement.
The residential beach is reserved for guests and residents of Seaside as a way to preserve it and to protect the fragile dune ecosystem that looks onto the beach. The nine Pavilions are the elegant gateways to the beach, each one a unique architectural gem, each serving as photogenic places for selfies, as well as quiet spots just to hang out, relaxing with a glass of wine, enjoying the crimson sunsets or just gazing at the ocean.
Families in Seaside
Seaside is the exceptional Florida destination for Spring Break, especially for families. It's a safe town for all ages, from elders to infants, making a multigenerational getaway an easy choice. The sand alleyways make an adventure to find new ways to get around town, and the brick-paved roads have a ten-mile per hour speed limit. Golf carts are almost non-existent, and people pretty much don't drive their cars here once they're parked.
The town is designed to be friendly to children, whether they're practicing their bike-riding, climbing the trees in elegant Ruskin Park, or coming back from an errand to the Market and recognizing their cottage's unique fence design - it's a Seaside rule to have different house fences on a street for this very reason! Kids get to read in Seaside too, from the children's selections at Sun Dog Books, and in between watching the Children's Theater performances or the Outdoor Movie under the stars.
Check our Events listings to see what's happening when you're here.
Curfew Kindness
The Seaside Spring Break curfew that happens at 7 pm this year during March 3 - April 25 ensures that minors under 18 are accompanied by an adult to access the beach and the town square activities. At the same time, many residential streets are closed to traffic, to keep the pace of life calm and neighborhood-speed. The curfew is common all along Hwy 30A and makes sure that the fun-loving exuberance of our nation's special party time doesn't make life hard for others, especially kids - another win-win solution to a Florida concern!
Some Seaside vacation cottages that are perfect for families include the 4-bedroom Belle Vernon, the 6-bedroom Days Like This and 3-bedroom Knotty By Nature (with a pool!).
